1. Introduction and Significance
- Administrative Importance: Vandoor Block Panchayat is an important local self-government institution situated in Nilambur Taluk of Malappuram District. Functioning as the intermediate tier of local governance between the Grama Panchayats and the District Panchayat, the Block Panchayat plays a crucial role in rural development, public welfare, and the coordination of various government schemes and programmes.
- Historical Background: The Vandoor Block Panchayat region is a land deeply associated with the national freedom struggle and the lives and contributions of brave patriots. Situated in the foothills of the Silent Valley–Western Ghats, a region renowned for its rich biodiversity, the area lies approximately 200–300 feet above sea level.
Geography and Development Potential: Vandoor Block Panchayat encompasses the Chaliyar, Kuthirappuzha, and Olippuzha rivers, along with numerous small and large streams and associated drainage and water-recharge areas. The region is generally fertile and covers an area of 318.97 square kilometres, with diverse types of soil.
As the industrial sector has not yet achieved significant growth in the Block area, the development of the local economy is largely dependent on the agricultural sector. The Vandoor Block Panchayat community comprises farmers, agricultural labourers, and wage labourers, who together form an important part of the local economy and social fabric.
